The term 'inverse function' as it applies to the area of basic math can be defined as 'a function ƒ(y) = x, denoted by ƒ-1(x) such that the domain of the function ƒ(x) becomes the range of the inverse function ƒ-1(x), and the range of ƒ(x) becomes the domain of ƒ-1(x) ; the function will only have an inverse function if it is a one to one relation'.
