The term 'enzyme' as it applies to the area of gnome research can be defined as 'A protein that acts as a catalyst, speeding the rate at which a biochemical reaction proceeds but not altering the direction or nature of the reaction'.

The term 'enzyme' as it applies to the area of illness can be defined as ' A substance that speeds up chemical reaction. Every chemical reaction in living organisms is facilitated by an enzyme'.
