The term 'eclipse' as it applies to the area of Earth observation can be defined as ' The partial or total apparent darkening of the sun when the moon comes between the sun and the Earth (solar eclipse), or the darkening of the moon when the full moon is in the Earth's shadow (lunar eclipse)'.
