dependent variable

The term 'dependent variable' as it applies to the area of basic science can be defined as 'observed variable in an experiment or study whose changes are determined by the presence or quantity of one or more independent variables'.

The term 'dependent variable' as it applies to the area of basic math can be defined as 'the output variable in a function which depends on the value of the input or independent variable'.
