The term 'data set' as it applies to the area of Earth observation can be defined as ' A logically meaningful grouping or collection of similar or related data. Data having mostly similar characteristics (source or class of source, processing level and algorithms, etc.)'.

The term 'data set' as it applies to the area of basic math can be defined as 'a defined group of quantitative and/or qualitative information within a context gathered through observations, questioning, and/or measurement'.
