Thunder

The term 'Thunder' as it applies to the area of Earth observation can be defined as ' The sound that results from lightning. Lightning bolts (static electricity) produce intense heat. This burst of heat makes the air around the bolt expand explosively, producing the sound we hear as thunder. Since light travels faster than sound, we see the lightning before we hear the thunder'.

The term 'Thunder' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' The sound caused by rapidly expanding gases in a lightning discharge'.
