The term 'System' as it applies to the area of basic science can be defined as 'group of body organs that together perform one or more vital functions, or organized group of devices, parts or factors that together perform a function or drive a process (e.g., weather system, mechanical system)'.

The term 'System' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Physically connected generation, transmission, and distribution facilities operated as an integrated unit under one central management, or operating supervision'.
