Recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) The term 'Recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) ' as it applies to the area of agriculture can be defined as ' Levels of essential nutrients that, on the basis of scientific knowledge, are judged by the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB of the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences), to be adequate to meet the known nutrient needs of practically all healthy persons. They are designed to provide a safety factor appropriate for each nutrient and exceed the actual requirements of most persons whose individual nutrient needs vary'.
