The term 'Parapet Wall' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' A solid wall built along the top of a dam (upstream and/or downstream edge) used for ornamentation, for safety of vehicles and pedestrians, or to prevent overtopping caused by wave runup'.

The term 'Parapet Wall' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' In hydrologic terms, a solid wall built along the top of the dam for ornament, safety, or to prevent overtopping'.
