Hypolimnion

The term 'Hypolimnion' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' The lower, or bottom, layer of a lake or reservoir with essentially uniform colder temperatures. The lowest layer in a thermally stratified lake or reservoir. This layer consists of colder, more dense water, has a constant temperature and no mixing occurs. See stratification'.
