Gene

The term 'Gene' as it applies to the area of gnome research can be defined as 'The fundamental physical and functional unit of heredity. A gene is an ordered sequence of nucleotides located in a particular position on a particular chromosome that encodes a specific functional product (i.e., a protein or RNA molecule)'.

The term 'Gene' as it applies to the area of stem cell research can be defined as 'A functional unit of heredity that is a segment of DNA found on chromosomes in the nucleus of a cell. Genes direct the formation of an enzyme or other protein'.
