Drainage Area

The term 'Drainage Area' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' The area which drains to a particular point on a river or stream. The drainage area of a stream at a specified location is that area, measured in a horizontal plane, enclosed by a topographic divide from which direct surface runoff from precipitation normally drains by gravity into the stream above the specified point'.

The term 'Drainage Area' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' In hydrologic terms, an area having a common outlet for its surface runoff (also see Watershed and Catchment Area)'.
