Drainage Area The term 'Drainage Area' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' The area which drains to a particular point on a river or stream. The drainage area of a stream at a specified location is that area, measured in a horizontal plane, enclosed by a topographic divide from which direct surface runoff from precipitation normally drains by gravity into the stream above the specified point'.
