Direct runoff

The term 'Direct runoff' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' In hydrologic terms, the runoff entering stream channels promptly after rainfall or snowmelt. Superposed on base runoff, it forms the bulk of the hydrograph of a flood'.

The term 'Direct runoff' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Water that flows over the ground surface or through the ground directly into streams, rivers, or lakes'.
