The term 'Direct access' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' An arrangement in which customers can purchase electricity directly from any supplier in the competitive market, using the transmission and distribution lines of electric utilities to transport the electricity'.

The term 'Direct access' as it applies to the area of energy can be defined as ' The ability of a retail customer to purchase electricity or other energy sources directly from a supplier other than their traditional supplier'.
