Contaminant

The term 'Contaminant' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' A potentially harmful physical, biological, chemical or radiological substance in water. Any physical chemical, biological, or radiological substance or matter that has an adverse effect on air, water, or soil'.

The term 'Contaminant' as it applies to the area of hazardous materials can be defined as 'A substance that is either present in an environment where it does not belong or is present at levels that might cause harmful (adverse) health effects'.
