The term 'Benthos' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' those animals who live on the sediments of the sea floor, including both mobile and non-mobile forms'.

The term 'Benthos' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Organisms living in or on the bottom of a lake, pond, ocean, stream, etc'.
