Appliance efficiency index

The term 'Appliance efficiency index' as it applies to the area of energy can be defined as '  A relative comparison of trends in new-model efficiencies for major appliances and energy-using equipment. The base year for relative comparisons was 1972(1972=100). Efficiencies for each year were efficiencies of different model types that were weighted by their market shares'.
