primary flight control

'primary flight control' is an military term. It means '(DOD) The controlling agency on aviation ships and amphibious aviation assault ships that is responsible for air traffic control of aircraft within 5 nautical miles of the ship. On most Coast Guard cutters, primary flight control duties are performed by a combat information center, and the term "PRIFLY" is not used. Also called PRIFLY. See also amphibious aviation assault ship; aviation ship'.
