crossing area

'crossing area' is an military term meaning '(DOD only) 2. A controlled access area for a river crossing operation used to decrease traffic congestion at the river. It is normally a brigade-sized area defined by lateral boundaries and release lines 3 to 4 kilometers (based on mission, enemy, terrain and weather, troops and support available-time available) from each side of the river'.
