Give on -- London Stock Exchange term ; a broker or dealer who has bought a stock and does not wish to take it up says he will give on it when he is willing to pay a contango (carryingover charge) for the privilege of continuing his bargain (contract) to the succeeding fortnightly settlement; a broker or dealer who has sold a stock and does not wish to deliver it says he will take it in when he is willing to borrow the stock and either receive a contango or, if the stock is much oversold, pay a backwardation for the privilege of postponing delivery to the succeeding fortnightly settlement.
