historic definition...

Financial article -- The article in a newspaper which describes operations and conditions in the financial markets, including the market for stocks and bonds ; another name is money article. It is the custom of newspapers to print the report of the transactions in stocks on the New York Stock Exchange in tabular form. First is given the number of shares of each stock sold and then in order the high, low and last prices and then the net change, which is represented by the difference between the last price of the day in question and the last price the day before (or if there was no transaction the day before, then the price at which the last preceding transaction, whenever it took place, was made). A net advance (or gain) is usually indicated by the plus mark, viz : + and a net decline (or loss) by the minus mark, viz : - Usually only bid and asked quotations for "outside" stocks are printed.
