Fedwire -- the Federal Reserve System's electronic funds transfer network. Fedwire is used for transferring reserve account balances of depository institutions, and for transferring government securities. Fedwire is also used for the settlement of other clearing systems, such as CHIPS (Clearinghouse Interbank Payments Systems), which engages Fedwire for settlement.
