All Ordinaries Index -- Index based on share prices weighted by proportion of market capitalization for the 500 biggest firms in Australia numbered on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). The index was created by ASX at 500 points in January 1980. It does not take into account liquidity concerns except in the case of foreign entities. At the end of August 2000, the index covered 99% of the Australian market. In 2000, the S&P/ASX 100 Index replaced the All Ordinaries Index as the foremost market indicator.
