Advisory Letter -- A newssheet containing tips and advice for subscribers to one or more issues. Advisory letters vary in composition. Some will present a general overview of economic prospects while others bring their attention upon a specific segment of the securities, share and commodity markets. Some of the letters may recommend only mutual funds or particular securities; in the latter case, the writer normally has an affiliation with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a Registered Investment Advisor. In some cases, an advisory newsletter may take the form of a free hotline that can provide regularly updated information.
